The Guardian's new membership scheme – in which ‘patrons’, for £60 a month, can enjoy a “backstage pass” – has not impressed Times deputy editor Emma Tucker.
After speaking about the positives of Times+ membership at the Frontline Club last week, Tucker said: "The Guardian club’s an interesting one. Because you don’t get very much for being a member.
“You don’t get the paper, because, well, you pay for that. You don’t get the online, you don’t get the app, because it’s all free.
“So I think it’s a bit like being a patron of the British Museum or something – you are signing up to say: ‘I am a Guardian reader.’
“You get a lot more for The Times.”
