Public, The Guardian’s monthly magazine for public sector managers, is becoming an online-only publication.
The magazine came out every month, bar August, and was sent free on request. There were a small number of private, paid-for subscriptions.
It dealt with all aspects of the public sector, bar education. The March issue will be the last. Circulation, according to ABC, was 12,672.
Editor Jane Dudman told Press Gazette the move online would enable the title to engage and debate with readers.
“The magazine was a fantastic success, but we want to move it forward and engage more with our readers,” she said.
“You can’t do that much more effectively than going online.”
Dudman had been acting editor since September, when former editor David Walker left to join the Audit Commission.
The new-look Public website will launch next month. Previously, the website was used solely for magazine copy.
Former Public assistant editor Anna Bawden is now deputy editor of Society Guardian, the paper’s weekly public sector supplement.
A magazine sub-editor has also joined Society Guardian.
