Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

Telegraph Media Group hires web guru Greg Hadfield

By Sally Newall

Telegraph Media Group has recruited former Sunday Times news editor turned internet entrepreneur Greg Hadfield as its head of digital development.

The Telegraph said Hadfield was one of the first journalists to leave Fleet Street for the internet in 1995 when he founded Soccernet.

The football website was sold to ESPN/Disney for £15m in 1999. He then created Schoolsnet, an education website which he sold in 2003.

In his new role Hadfield will oversee the group’s digital development, initially in sport, and expand the depth of coverage.

He will also work on the integration of data and commercial partnerships, the Telegraph said in a statement.

Tim Rowell – who led the rollout last year of the Telegraph’s new web publishing system – has been promoted to digital publisher for Telegraph Media Group.

In the new position, he will lead the development of various channels on Telegraph.co.uk including motoring, finance, fashion, technology and travel.

Telegraph digital editor Edward Roussel said: “Tim and Greg will play critical roles in helping Telegraph Media Group deliver its 2009 digital strategy.

“Greg has a track record as a top class journalist who is also a tremendous innovator. Tim did an outstanding job of rolling out our new publishing system.”
