Telegraph integrates print and web business departments

By Press Gazette

Telegraph Media Group’s two national newspapers are merging their business sections into one multi-media business department.

The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph and Telegraph.co.uk will now share journalists and that ‘each member of the business team will now have the chance play a part across all three publications”, but the company said the two papers would ‘retain their separate identities”.

Damian Reece was promoted to head of business across both titles and the website in September.

Patience Wheatcroft – herself a former Sunday Telegraph business editor – resigned as Sunday Telegraph editor in September amid claims of ‘strategic differences’over the company’s plans to integrate the two titles more closely.

In the new department, Richard Fletcher has been promoted from deputy city editor to executive editor, business, and will oversee the coordination across the three platforms.

Mark Kleinman was this week appointed The Sunday Telegraph’s City editor, alongside deputy Louise Armitstead.

Richard Blackden, formerly digital city editor, has been promoted to city editor of The Daily Telegraph, and will be responsible for editing the news pages and website.

Reece said that integration had ‘paid huge dividends’for Telegraph Media Group and its journalists.

He said: ‘It has allowed us to focus resources on the higher growth areas of our business while maintaining and adding to the success of others. Those areas of the business that have pursued an integrated strategy have seen impressive growth.

‘I’m thoroughly looking forward to working with the new Business department – a team built on teamwork and cooperation.’
