Revelations today about apparently faked stories appearing in the tabloids are “just the tip of the iceberg” of what a new documentary about UK celebrity journalism has uncovered, a spokeswoman told Press Gazette.
Those behind Starsuckers, a British film due to be released last this month, revealed today that they have placed fake unchecked stories in several tabloids during the making of the film. And they have also now revealed that three Sunday tabloids expressed an interest in buying confidential medical records from them in potential breach of the Editors’ Code.
Journalists from the Sunday Mirror, News of the World and People, we secretly filmed by the Starsuckers documentary team, who posed as plastic surgeons willing to sell confidential information to them. A journalist from the Sunday Express refused to meet, saying that obtaining such information was illegal and against the PCC code.
