Socialist Worker condemned for saying Eton boy mauling was ‘another reason to save the polar bears’

The Socialist Worker has been condemned for a story appearing to make fun of the death of a schoolboy.

The inquest into the death of 17-year-old Eton pupil Horatio Chapple, who was mauled to death by a polar bear while on an Arctic expedition in 2011, began this week.

The Socialist Worker said in a diary report of the incident: “Now we have another reason to save the polar bears.”

The Socialist Worker has so far declined to comment and did not tell Press Gazette whether the article will be removed from its website.
