In keeping with their slogan to be first for breaking news, Sky News has appointed an Olympics correspondent three years before the London 2012 Olympic Games open.
Orla Chennaoui will start on 27 July with just 1096 days to go before the opening ceremony.
Chennaoui joined Sky News as Northern Ireland correspondent in 2006, moving to the London office in 2007. Previously she had worked at Meridian Television in Southampton and as reporter and newsreader at Scotland Today.
Chennaoui said: “I’m really excited to be taking on the dedicated role of Olympics Correspondent. It’s a fantastic opportunity to report from around the UK and beyond on the preparation of our sports stars and chart their battle for medals. I will also be closely monitoring the political and structural preparations around the site itself.”
