Mail Online today launched a new comment section for its website called RightMinds edited by former Daily Telegraph associate editor Simon Heffer.
Heffer left the Daily Telegraph in May and is believed to have been working on the Mail Online project since the start of August.
RightMinds serves as a landing page for all the Daily Mail’s comment writers and also hosts a number of new blogs and discussion boards.
Bloggers include: Michael Burleigh, Mellissa Kite, Brigadier Allan Mallinson and US writer Nile Gardner.
Heffer does not yet feature among Mail Online’s roster of writers but he does feature in the masthead of the new site which reads: ‘RightMinds edited by Simon Heffer’.
The new site also includes links to a selection of articles from other newspapers and blogs as well as links to the most commented-on news stories from Mail Online.
Mail Online is currently the second most popular news website in the UK, behind BBC News. According to ABC it reached 77.3m worldwide unique browsers in May ahead of the next-best placed national newspaper website Guardian.co.uk on 49.7m.
Heffer was deputy editor of the Daily Telegraph then left to join the Daily Mail as a comment writer in 1995. He joined the Telegraph as associate editor in 2005.
