Private detective arrested in computer hacking probe

By Darren Boyle

A former private investigator has been arrested in connection with computer hacking, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed.

The 51-year old man was interrogated by officers from Operation Tuleta at a north London police station.

The man was arrested at his home at around 7.15 this morning on suspicion of conspiracy to commit offences under the 1990 Computer Misuse Act.

Operation Tuleta is being run alongside Operation Weeting and Operation Elveden which are looking into allegations of phone-hacking and corrupt payments to officials.

The man was the 22nd person arrested by Tuleta detectives

The man has since been bailed and will return to a north London police station in January 2014.

According to a Metropolitan police spokesperson: "Operation Tuleta is the MPS inquiry investigating criminal acts that intrude on individual privacy for journalistic purposes, that are not covered by the terms of reference for Operation Weeting or Operation Elveden, and other criminal matters as directed by the oversight group. Matters that disclose Data Protection Act Offences alone will be passed to the Information Commissioners Office to progress as appropriate."

Three people have so far been charged under Operation Tuleta while three others have been told that no further action will be taken against them.
