Prime Minister of Turkey sues the Daily Telegraph

By Oliver Luft

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Prime Minister of Turkey, is taking legal action against the Daily Telegraph after it alleged a $25m donation was made to his AK Parti after he negotiated with Iran.

Through law firm Carter-Ruck, Erdogan has filed a claim at the High Court in relation to the allegations, which were published in the Telegraph on 15 September.

A statement issued by Carter-Ruck this morning said the newspaper was informed prior to publication that the allegations were “wholly untrue”.

Erdogan is demanding immediate removal of the offending articles from the paper’s website and the publication of a correction and apology.

A spokeswoman for Telegraph Media Group declined to comment.
