Police make 7th arrest in police payment investigation

Officers from the Met’s investigation into illegal payments to police by News International journalists have made their seventh arrest.

The Met has confirmed that a 37-year-old woman was arrested by officers from Operation Elveden this morning.

A statement from the force said: ‘At 06.15hrs on Thursday, 15 December, officers arrested a woman (37 ys) on suspicion of committing offences involving making payments to police officers for information.

‘She was arrested at a residential address in Surrey, and has been taken to a south London police station where she remains in custody.

‘This is the seventh arrest under Operation Elveden.”

So far 16 people have been arrested in the Met’s phone-hacking investigation Operation Weeting and one person has been arrested under its Operation Tuleta probe into computer hacking.
