By Press Gazette reporters

The News of the World has appointed Natasha Pearlman as its new features editor.

Pearlman, who is currently senior commissioning editor of the Daily Mail’s Femail section, will start in her new role next year as a replacement for Matt Nixson, who is joining The Sun.

After starting as a feature writer at South West News Service in 2004, Pearlman joined the Daily Mail as a feature writer in 2006.

While working at the Mail, Pearlman was shortlisted for Young Journalist of the Year at the British Press Awards.

In 2008, Pearlman moved to the Femail commissioning desk as editor, a role she combines with editing the section.

In a further appointment, Guy Basnett has been promoted to deputy features editor of the News of the World with immediate effect.

Basnett joined the News of the World in 2006 as a features writer and in 2009 was nominated for a British Press Award for Reporter of the Year and in 2010 for Young Reporter of the Year.

He won Young Journalist of the Year at Press Gazette’s Regional Press Awards in 2006 while working for The Journal Newcastle.

Colin Myler, editor of the News of The World, said: ‘Natasha and Guy are two of the brightest young talents in the business today.

‘Their energy and dynamism will take our feature’s coverage to another level.”
