Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

‘News in Briefs’ dropped but new Sun editor says Page Three girls are here to stay

By William Turvill

The Sun has dropped its ‘News in Briefs’ section from Page Three but new editor David Dinsmore has said topless models will remain in the paper.

The section, in which a topless model gives her take on the news of the day, was not in yesterday’s edition and will not return.

The move comes in the same week that Dinsmore formally took over from Dominic Mohan.

Dinsmore said: "News In Briefs was a brilliant twist on Page 3, but we're always looking to refresh one of the favourite features in the paper."

According to The Sun, Prince Charles was among the supporters of the section. After Danni, 23, commented on his architectural beliefs in 2010, he is quoted as saying: “I’m so glad Page 3 girls are interested in my views. I roared with laughter when I read it. We should arrange a reception with the Page 3 girls.”

However Dinsmore has said this morning on LBC and BBC Radio 5 Live that Page Three girls are to remain in the paper.

The comments will disappoint No More Page Three campaigners who were yesterday offered a glimmer of hope when he responded to an email from a member, calling for the feature to be axed.

According to campaigner Sian Life, she emailed him saying: "I will keep this short and sweet: please could you end the objectification of women in The Sun newspaper? We have some great ideas for what you could replace it with!

"Come on, I know that you know, that women are more than just a pair of tits!"

Dinsmore responded: "Thank you for your email.  I will certainly take your comments on board."
