Neil White has been named the new editor of the Derby Telegraph after his award-winning predecessor Steve Hall was promoted to managing director last week.
White has been at the paper for six years and is a former assistant editor with the Nottingham Evening Post and news editor at UK News.
Northcliffe said that chief sub-editor Ian Croson and night editor Gordon Wilson will stand deputise when White is away.
He will report to Hall, who will ‘continue to oversee editorial strategy alongside developing both the print and digital offering to readers and advertisers”.
Hall said White was ‘one of the best newsmen that I have worked with in 30 years but he has also made a telling contribution in other areas of the business. He is a terrific spotter and developer of talent, has helped raise the paper’s profile through our Community Champions and Telegraph Summer Smile initiatives and has a keen commercial antenna”.
Commenting on his appointment, White said: ‘I am delighted to be given the chance to lead a brilliant, award-winning team.
‘I’ve been honoured to play a part at a paper which has built a reputation as a fierce campaigner for the community. Rest assured, this approach will continue.’
The move is effective from Monday 2 July.
Current MD Michelle Gesell has been appointed managing director of the West Midlands covering the Staffordshire Sentinel News and Media and Central Independent Newspapers.
Hall won editor of the year at the Regional Press Awards in May.
