Mirror to bring back spot the ball and football pools

By Press Gazette reporters

The football pools will be revived in the Daily Mirror, along with the spot the ball game, more than 10 years after it last appeared in the tabloid paper.

Publisher Trinity Mirror has struck an exclusive deal with Sportech, which relaunched the game as The New Football Pools last year, to bring the betting game back to its newspaper titles.

Trinity Mirror is also planning to reintroduce spot the ball game in the newspaper, using images from its football photo archive, with games also made available on its football website.

In addition, the Mirror will run an editorial column every Tuesday, which will include a coupon to play the pools game.

The reintroduction of the games was announced this morning in the Mirror’s weekly Mania football supplement.

Conor Hanna, deputy editor of the Daily Mirror, said: “The Football Pools and Spot the Ball are classic games which are part of the fabric of football history in this country.

“We are delighted to be reviving them in the Daily Mirror’s sports pages and across all our editorial and gaming platforms.”
