The Guardian is launching an editorial office in San Francisco (pictured, Shutterstock).
Executive editor Merope Mills will head up the office as west coast editor.
She will be joined on the team, "focusing initially on technology, entertainment and news", by Paul Lewis, the new west coast bureau chief.
Jemima Kiss will also be relocating to San Francisco as head of technology on the west coast.
In additon Nigel M Smith will be joining The Guardian as an entertainment writer based in Los Angeles.
The Guardian said the new office "will not only widen the Guardian's reach across the US, but will also contribute to the organisation's 24/7 editorial coverage, bridging the time zone gap between New York and Sydney".
Guardian US, which already has bureaux in New York and Washington, is edited by Lee Glendinning.
