The Mail on Sunday is to bring out a digitally interactive version of its supplement, Live Magazine, this month.
The title claims it will be the first national newspaper to have done this when it releases its ‘mini-fitness’ special on 27 January.
To be able to interact on the special edition, readers will need to download a content reader app, designed by Digital Space.
To access more content, readers hover their mobile phones over the magazine’s images – editorial and commercial – which will be embedded with digital watermarks.
In addition to extra advert information, the app will enable readers to access extra features – such as fitness advice from England rugby player James Haskell and anecdotes from columnists – through the app.
Deputy group advertisement director Rosemary Gorman said: “Research shows that our print product directly drives strong reader spend and engagement online.
"This interactive issue gives advertisers a unique opportunity to engage our readers instantaneously and like never before.”
