Kylie’s ex gets payout over Sun’s cheat claim

By PA Mediapoint

Kylie Minogue’s ex-boyfriend today accepted undisclosed libel damages over a Sun newspaper claim that he had cheated on her during their long-term relationship.

French-born actor and model Olivier Martinez suffered considerable embarrassment, distress and harm to his personal reputation as a result of the article which appeared November 2007, his solicitor, Chris Scott, told the High Court.

Scott told Mr Justice Eady the allegation, which was denied by both the actor and Ms Minogue, was not put to Martinez before publication.

He said that News Group Newspapers now accepted the allegations, which also appeared on its website, were defamatory and untrue and ought never to have been published.

News Group agreed to pay Martinez damages and his costs and sincerely apologised.

Patrick Callaghan, solicitor for the newspaper, said: “The defendant accepts that the claimant was not unfaithful to Ms Minogue.”
