The mother and grandparents of Jade Goody have launched a £100,000 legal battle against Mirror Group Newspapers over the publication of pictures of her burial.
The family of the deceased reality TV star are suing the publisher and agency NewsPics claiming pictures of her burial, which appeared in the People newspaper on 5 April, were an invasion of privacy and a breach of confidence.
The picture published in the Sunday tabloid showed a group of mourners at the burial.
According to the writ issued by London law firm Atkins Thomson, Jade’s mother Jackiey Budden and grandparents, John and Sylvia Caddock, are amongst seven people making a collective damages claim.
They seek an injunction banning MGN and NewsPics from republishing or processing the pictures, and orders forcing them to hand over the photographs and any copies.
The seven are also seeking a formal declaration saying their right to privacy had been invaded and their duty of confidence breached by the actions of the newspaper and picture agency.
Trinity Mirror, owners of Mirror Group Newspapers, and NewsPics both declined to comment.
The reality TV star and mother-of-two died in March after waging a long and public struggle against cervical cancer in which television cameras recorded intimate moments of her life.
Goody married her boyfriend Jack Tweed, who is not amongst the claimants, just days before she died.
