The Guardian has appointed women’s editor Jane Martinson as its new head of media.
Martinson, who was editor of the paper’s media section between 2007 and 2010, will take up the role on 8 September.
In her new role, she will be overseeing The Guardian's coverage of the media industry print and online.
The head of media position has been vacant since Dan Sabbagh, who replaced Martinson in 2010, was made national news editor in January 2013.
Martinson, who set up The Guardian’s women’s blog, joined the paper from the Financial Times in 1999 as business correspondent based in New York.
She has also previously worked as the paper’s City desk news editor.
The Guardian has not yet announced who will replace Martinson’s women’s editor role.
A spokesperson said: "We're currently reviewing our women's coverage with a view to expanding it in light of successful Guardian campaigns such as #endFGM. While we're not able to confirm future plans as yet, new roles will be advertised in due course."
