Guardian: Met Police want to question Rupert Murdoch ‘under caution’

By William Turvill

Rupert Murdoch has been told Metropolitan Police officers want to interview him “under caution”, according to The Guardian.

Nick Davies, the journalist who broke the phone-hacking story, claims on the front page of the paper today that Murdoch was first contacted by detectives last year to arrange questioning.

But the paper said that a request from his lawyers to hold off until the end of the phone-hacking trial was agreed to.

Davies reported that officers want to interview Murdoch "as a suspect as part of their inquiry into allegations of crime at his British newspapers".

The Guardian reports that Murdoch’s son, James, formerly executive chairman of News International in the UK, may also be questioned.

The Metropolitan Police and News UK declined to comment on the story.
