FT.com appoints first video chief

By Press Gazette

The Financial Times has appointed the first head of video for FT.com.

In this new role, Richard Edgar will be responsible for developing FT.com’s video section, which is currently producing more than 100 videos per month.

Edgar joins FT.com from Reuters Video, where he was editor in charge for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He previously spent three years as Reuters Television’s Frankfurt correspondent, where he covered politics and financial news. He was the business editor of BBC Radio 4’s Today programme from 1998 to 2000.

Edgar will report to FT.com editor James Montgomery.

FT.com has also launched several new video products, including a weekly interview produced in Asia, View from the Markets, a special edition of ‘The Short View’ to mark the anniversary of the 1987 stock market crash, and an online business lecture series from the Indian School of Business.

The Financial Times only publishes its ABCe figures annually, but says its traffic has grown more than 70 per cent over the past year to an average of 6.5 million monthly unique users in the three months through August.

In the same period, the company says, pageviews have risen by 50 per cent to 43m and online revenues have increased by 40 per cent.
