The Financial Times has appointed Alec Russell as its new comment and analysis editor.

Russell, who was previously world news editor, will replace Caroline Daniel who is taking up the post of Weekend FT editor.

In his new role Russell will be responsible for editing the features pages, including the op-ed page and Business Life.

He will shortly be joined by James Crabtree, deputy editor of Prospect, who joins the FT next month as comment editor.

Prior to his appointment as world news editor, Russell was the Financial Times Johannesburg bureau chief.
