Daily Star photographer loses cancer fight

Award-winning Daily Star photographer Ian Showell has lost his fight against cancer.

Showell, 59, who also worked for the Press Association and other national newspapers, died in his sleep while being cared for at a hospice.

During a long and eventful career he covered many major royal events and major news assignments, including the troubles in Northern Ireland. He is survived by his wife Val and sons Paul and Neil.

His funeral will be at 2pm on Tuesday October 14, at St John’s Church, Layhams Road, West Wickham, Kent BR4 9HJ.

Mourners can send flowers to the church or donations to either Cancer Research or the Pilgrim’s Hospice, Hythe Road, Willesborough, Ashford, Kent TN 24 ONE.
