Former assistant editor Chris Stevens is to leave The Sun after almost 30 years on the paper.
Stevens (pictured above centre) joined The Sun in 1981 from the London Evening Standard. He held several roles on the paper including 15 years as an assistant editor, overseeing the features production department and most recently as comment editor.
He is expected to leave the News International paper next month.
Editor Dominic Mohan told staff of Stevens’ departure in an internal memo in which he praised the “Sun legend’s” contribution to the paper and wished him success for the future.
“His wonderful production skills, wit, humour and flair for a brilliant headline made Chris the consummate Sun man,” Mohan wrote.
Stevens oversaw the launch of SunTalk internet radio show and edited the programme presented by former columnist Jon Gaunt.
The show won the British Press Award for digital innovation in March this year but was closed in July by News International after 18 months on the air.
