Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

Britain’s biggest independent news agency expands

By Press Gazette

Britain’s biggest independent press agency, South West News Service (SWNS), has taken over Mason’s News in Cambridge.

The re-launched agency will cover Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Northants, southern Lincolnshire and take commissions in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and other bordering areas on request.

It will retain the Mason’s name but be under the day-to-day control of the news and picture editors at SWNS’s headquarters in Bristol.

The venture is the second expansion for SWNS in recent years. It opened an office in Plymouth in 2005 and now has some 50 staff across news, pictures and features.

SWNS editor Andrew Young said: ‘It’s a great news patch and we look forward to providing the same quality coverage that newspapers have come to expect from us in Bristol and Plymouth.”
