Comedian Bobby Davro and his former wife Trudi have become the latest celebrities to sue News International over alleged phone-hacking.
Davro, who is suing under his real name Robert Nankeville, and his wife are demanding damages from News International subsidiary News Group Newspapers and ex-News of the World private investigator Glenn Mulcaire.
Davro was a hugely popular television entertainer in the eighties and nineties with his own prime-time Saturday night show on ITV. He spent almost a year on BBC soap Eastenders in 2007 and also appeared on ITV show Dancing On Ice in 2010.
Rupert Murdoch shut down the News of the World last July following revelations it had hacked into the phone of murdered schoolgirl Millie Dowler.
Since then dozens of celebrities and public figures have filed lawsuits at London’s High Court against NGN and Glenn Mulcaire claiming their voicemails were intercepted.
News International has already settled many of those claims including one from singer Charlotte Church just days before her case was due to start in February. In January the publisher settled 37 civil actions followed by another 21 in February.
Procedural judge Chief Master Winegarten will handle initial stages of the pair’s claim.
