Telegraph.co.uk has become the UK’s biggest national newspaper website, according to new traffic data released today by ABCe.
The Telegraph Media Group site recorded 27,708,274 unique users last month, up 62.64 per cent year on year.
This figure puts Telegraph.co.uk about 1.4 million users ahead of Guardian.co.uk, which ended its run as the UK’s most-visited national newspaper website in February when it was overtaken by The Sun.
Telegraph Media Group digital editor Edward Roussel said: “Telegraph.co.uk had a record month. Finance, travel and blogs were among the biggest contributors to our growth. Sport and technology also continue to be popular.”
Guardian.co.uk, in second place, had 26,238,539 unique users in March, up 40.28 per cent on the same period last year.
Mail Online was in third place with a 32.25 per cent year-on-year traffic rise to 23,768,358 unique users.
Times Online, in fourth position, had 21,614,273 unique users in March, up 34.38 per cent.
The Sun, which enjoyed a traffic spike in February from its Alfie Patten and Jade Goody coverage, fell from first to fifth position in March, with 21,248,552 users.
Independent.co.uk recorded the biggest year-on-year traffic growth, up 89.67 per cent to 10,034,148.
The Mirror Group of websites had 7,138,013 unique users, a 62.09 per cent annual rise.
