Traffic at the national newspaper websites dipped month-on-month during the short month of February, according to new figures published today by ABCe.
Telegraph.co.uk performed best month-on-month, losing just 0.5 per cent of its January unique users, to 12.3 million unique users, but this remains the lowest total among the five national newspaper sites that publish their monthly ABCe traffic figures.
The rank order of the five was the same as January with The Guardian top followed by Mail Online, then Times Online, Sun Online and Telegraph.co.uk still in last place.
Guardian.co.uk had 19.52 million unique users in February, a year-on-year increase of 41.85 percent. The Guardian also had the largest domestic audience, with 8.27 million (42.37 per cent) of its users coming from the UK.
Mail Online did not publish an ABCe certificate in February 2007 – so did not have an official year-on-year comparison. But according to internal data provided by Associated Newspapers, the site continued to grow strongly, up 133 percent year-on-year to 17.04 million unique users keeping it in second place in the national press web race. It had 4.7 million users (27.47 per cent) in the UK.
Times Online also did not publish an ABCe figure last February. It was down 4 per cent month-on-month to 14.47 million unique users, including 5.1 million (35.26 per cent) in the UK.
Its News International stablemate, The Sun Online, recorded a 56 percent year-on-year rise to 12.53 million unique users. The Sun’s domestic online audience was 5.1 million unique users, or 40.7 per cent of its total.
