Fourteen jobs are at risk of redundancy at Northcliffe subsidiary Staffordshire Sentinel News and Media.
The Stoke Sentinel publisher has announced a newsroom restructure that will see a shakeup of its photographic, sport, design and features departments and the scrapping of its monthly standalone magazine North Staffordshire with immediate effect.
Sentinel editor Mike Sassi said: “The Sentinel is undertaking a comprehensive review of its business as it attempts to find better ways to serve its readers and advertisers. We hope the planned changes would put us in a better position to achieve future revenue growth and secure sustained profits.”
Northcliffe announced it was also reviewing The Sentinel’s Moorlands and Cheshire district editions and returning subbing and design of Central independent News and Media (CIN) weekly titles to Tamworth, where the papers’ reporters, photographers and editor are based.
CIN titles are currently subbed and designed at the Sentinel’s newsroom.
Group editor of Central Independent News and Media, Gary Phelps, said: ‘The return of all of the subbing of our titles to Tamworth brings our entire news operation under one roof, allowing us to better use the resources at our disposal and ensuring our news gathering and design teams can easily share vital local knowledge.”
The proposed reorganisation will place up to 14 editorial posts at risk of redundancy.
The most recent ABC figures, covering the last six months of 2011, show circulation of The Sentinel was down 7 per cent to 48,155.
