UBM chief exec to stand down as sale of flagship title nears

David Levin has announced that he is to step down as chief executive UBM as the B2B publisher moves a step closer to selling one of its flagship titles.

Levin, who joined UBM  as chief executive in 2005, is to stand down from the job in July next year. UBM chair Dame Helen Alexander will lead the search for a successor.

She said: “David has led the remarkable transformation of UBM into a focused, international events-led marketing communications business during a time of huge change in the media industry. He has successfully laid the foundations for UBM’s next phase of development. David remains in charge and we are working closely together to ensure a good handover when the time comes.”

Meanwhile, the Evening Standard has reported that Metropolis International is leading the race to buy UBM weekly Property Week.

The magazine is thought to have been put on the market after UBM announced a strategic review of it, along with Building Design and Travel Trade Gazette, in June. However, the publisher could still opt to retain the other two titles.

Briefing Media and Ocean Media Group, which owns Inside Housing, were also thought to be interested in buying the title, along with Croydon-based Metropolis.

Last year, Briefing Media bought Farmers Guardian from UBM, along with Pulse a number of other titles, in a £10m deal.
