Spectator magazine has appointed James Forsyth as its new political editor.
His promotion follows the appointment of former political editor, Fraser Nelson, as editor of the right-leaning current affairs weekly.
Forsyth joined the magazine three years ago and has since been working as the title’s deputy editor (online).
He joined from Foreign Policy magazine in Washington, taking responsibility for transformation of the Spectator’s website and launching its Coffee House political blogs in 2007.

Nelson said: “James is one of brightest and most dedicated young journalists in Britain and I am delighted that he will become our new political editor.
“His appointment will come as no surprise to the many who have followed his political analysis on Coffee House over the last two years.
“As Britain prepares for what will almost certainly be a change of government, there is no one better to guide our readers – online and on the magazine – through what lies ahead.”
