As music fans await the latest album release from Oasis later this month, music weekly NME has teamed up with the band’s record label in a new marketing campaign.
NME has teamed up with Big Brother Recording conjunction with the Arts Council of England, the 17 September issue the IPC title is giving away a CD containing artwork and behind the scenes photos and a songbook with the lyrics and sheet music for three songs from the band’s new album, Dig Out Your Soul.
Budding musicians will be encouraged to record their own versions from the music provided and upload them to a website before the album is released. The move is seen as a way for Oasis to give back to their fans without giving their recordings away and is the latest in a series of recent partnerships NME has entered into to help promote releases.
Tim Pearson, head of marketing at NME said the partnership illustrates the modern musical arena: “A truly innovating artist such as Oasis comes to us with a great idea, open minded third parties are then approached with a unique way to market their brand – outside of their traditional comfort zone – and the result is a truly collectible product that will take pride of place on every Oasis fans shelf,” he said.
NME editor Conor McNicholas was enthusiastic about the project. He said: “We were blown away with this covermount idea and it’s been hugely exciting for us at NME to realise the concept with Big Brother Recordings and the Arts Council of England.”
