Emily Mann is to step down as deputy editor of left-leaning political magazine the New Statesman.
She will instead work part time as an assistant editor of the magazine while she completes her PHD in architectural history.
After a stint as a sub-editor on the Guardian’s Saturday Review section she rejoined the magazine in June this year replacing Sue Matthias who had moved the other way to become acting editor of the Guardian’s Weekend magazine.
Mann had previously worked at the New Statesman as its chief sub editor before joining The Guardian.
She told Press Gazette: “Getting the funding to continue my PHD is a lifetime opportunity.
“I’m very privileged to continue working for the Statesman and hope that I will be able to contribute as much as I can.”
