New editor for Estates Gazette

By Conrad Quilty-Harper

Reed Business Information property magazine Estates Gazette has appointed Damian Wild as its new editor.

Wild was previously group editor-in-chief and publisher of RBI’s Accountancy Age and Financial Director.

He replaces former editor Peter Bill who retired after 12 years on the magazine earlier this year.

Wild said: “Over the next few months I hope to build on Estates Gazette’s considerable strengths by bringing my cross-media experience to bear.

‘Readers, listeners and viewers will see our online presence grow substantially.”

Estates Gazette which was bought by RBI for £59.4 million in 1990, celebrated its 150th year in print last year.

Last month reports emerged that Ian Smith, the new chief executive of RBI’s parent company, Reed Elsevier, was planning to scrap the proposed sell-off of the business magazine division.

Reed postponed the sale of RBI, which also publishes titles such as New Scientist, Variety and Travel Weekly, in December last year after it failed to find a buyer.

But under previous chief executive, Sir Crispin Davis, Reed said RBI was still considered a non-core asset by the company and it would attempt to sell it again at a later date, in the “medium term” when conditions in the market improve.
