Mag ABCs: More surges but Glamour stays top

By Rachael Gallagher

Conde Nast’s Glamour magazine retained the top spot in the women’s fashion and lifestyle sector despite a loss in sale of 4.6 per cent year on year, according to data released today by ABC.

The handbag-sized monthly fashion and lifestyle title recorded a circulation of 526,145, still well ahead of its rival Cosmopolitan which dropped 6.2 per cent year on year to 441,663.

Elsewhere in the sector More magazine saw a healthy rise of 17.3 per cent to 190,708. The title switched from fortnightly to weekly publication last year after sales slumped. The change and a the introduction of a deal that where it was sold as part of a special offer with Bauer stablemate Heat appear to have turned things around for the title.

High street fashion weekly Look, from IPC Media, also recorded a boost in sales, up 2.5 per cent year on year to 315,410. Its high-end fashion weekly rival, Grazia, saw a small rise of 0.7 per cent but still lags behind with weekly sales of 228,694.

Vogue remained ahead of fashion rivals Elle and Instyle, despite falling 4 per cent year on year to 210,435. Elle dropped 4.1 per cent to 195,192 and In Style recorded a boost of 1.2 per cent year on year to 182,989.

Trojan Publishing’s Women’s Fitness saw a massive rise of 78.6 per cent year on year to 37,604, although just over 25 per cent of those sales were bulk give aways.

The home titles mostly suffered. Woman & Home saw a rise of 4 per cent year on year but Good Housekeeping, Ideal Home, Country Living, House Beautiful, Homes & Gardens and other smaller titles all dropped year on year.
