IPC Media’s oldest magazine, countryside lifestyle title The Field, has had a revamp.
The August issue of the monthly title, on sale on Thursday, will see changes throughout in a ‘distillation of the classic and the contemporary.’
The redesign was led by IPC Inspire’s group creative designer Brett Lewis and the magazine’s art editor Rebecca Hawtrey, and changes have been made to fonts, type size, headlines and the running order. The website will also have a new look.
Editor Jonathan Young said: ‘The design team’s brief was to create the effortless elegance you see in a thoroughbred horse and a Purdey gun, where less equals more. And we’ve pruned with Dimmocky determination. We’re now left with what could be called ‘essence of Field’ if that didn’t conjure up olfactory sensations of damp dog and cow pasture. And sound damn pretentious.’
Young added: ‘Like every classic brand, The Field has survived through constant evolution while remaining true to its original concept. We carry the best mix of shooting, fishing and general country features, along with the essential ‘dinner-party’ story – the one that’s talked about for weeks after publication”
In the new look August issue the magazine has asked the experts to analyse D. H. Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover, but to ignore the “rude bits” and instead give their verdict on gamekeeper Mellors’ skills with game birds, rather than his affair with Lady Chatterley. ‘Personally, I’m not sure I’d give him a reference,’said Young.
The Field was founded in 1853.
