Haymarket Consumer Media’s managing director, Kevin Costello, has taken over as chairman of the Periodical Publishers Association’s environment committee.
He replaces BBC Magazine’s managing director Peter Phippen who was appoointed chairman of the PPA after former Economist chairman Helen Alexander stood down from the post on leaving the Economist in July.
The PPA has been calculating the carbon footprint for the UK magazine industry, announcing preliminary figures at the PPA run Magazines Business Media conference 2008 in May. The results are now being used to see which aspect of the industry has the biggest impact on the environment and what changes need to be made.
