Haymarket mag ‘glamourises war’

By Rachael Gallagher

In a report funded by the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust. the magazine comes under fire for trivialising descriptions of warfare.

David Gee, the researcher who wrote the report, told Press Gazette that language used in Camouflage, such as describing a tank as ‘reeking of power’and war as ‘raining down lead on the bad guys’was unethical.

He said: ‘It’s given out at schools and people will be encouraged to subscribe to it. I do understand that the Army wants to promote its careers, but in Camouflage there’s an attempt to glamourise warfare and sanitise it.”

Haymarket Network said that it was not for them to comment because it is a customer title, not their own.
