Haymarket has signed a licensing agreement with a Vietnamese magazine publisher to launch an edition of monthly gadget title Stuff in the country.
Hanoi-based publisher Le Media has been granted the licence to publish the magazine, which will hit the newsstands in February next year. Haymarket recently agreed the licence for Stuff Vietnam with
Le Media president and chief executive officer Le Quoc Vinh said: “There are already many high quality local magazines in Vietnam but we believe that Stuff Vietnam will be a breakthrough in professional production and effective cooperation between a leading Vietnamese media company and a world-acclaimed name in publishing.”
He said he hoped that Stuff Vietnam would be the first of many Haymarket titles to launch in the country under licence.
Haymarket publishes media publications such as Campaign and Media Week, and other consumer titles such as football magazine FourFourTwo.
Le Media specialises in high-end print media and TV content, publishing Vietnamese women’s magazine, Dep, a weddings annual, a fortnightly business magazine and a men’s title, and has offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Edward Marr, Haymarket’s licensing manager in Asia, said: “Vietnam is one of the last great untapped markets in the region with huge potential for growth – it’s predicted that there will be 42 million mobile phone users by the end of 2010, all of them needing a reliable buying guide like Stuff.”
Currently only IDG’s PCWorld – a joint venture – and the Singapore-based Her World have a presence on Vietnamese newsstands due to previously restrictive local laws.
Stuff has 25 editions around the world in countries including Brazil, Spain, Russia and most recently India.
