Future to launch World of Warcraft magazine

By Conrad Quilty-Harper

Future Publishing is launching a magazine for the massively popular role-playing game World of Warcraft.

World of Warcraft: The Magazine will be a 148-page subscription-only title, carrying no advertising.

Future’s custom publishing team, FuturePlus, will produce the magazine in partnership with Blizzard Entertainment, creators of the World of Warcraft game.

The magazine, which will be published quarterly from November, will launch editions in four languages: English, French, German and Spanish.

Official Xbox Magazine senior editor Dan Amrich will become editor-in-chief of the new magazine with Ryan Vulk joining from Wired to work as art director.

World of Warcraft has more than ten million subscribers globally paying to compete in its role-play adventures games.

The first issue of the magazine will feature a review of five years of World of Warcraft and include tips and hints on playing the game.

Julian Rignall, editorial director of World of Warcraft: The Magazine, said: “We’re bringing together an international team of player-writer experts to create in-depth articles about World of Warcraft’s design, art, lore and community, as well as all aspects of its gameplay.

“It’s really important that our magazine articulates multiple player perspectives, so that the editorial offers balanced – and sometimes even opposing – points of view on winning strategies and tactics.”

The magazine is available in one and two year subscription bundles costing £29.95 and £52.50 respectively.

It will be available to buy via the World of Warcraft website and on a dedicated site worldofwarcraftthemagazine.com which will launch later today.
