Former editor of Travel Weekly’s technology magazine and website Travolution, Kevin May, is one of the founders of a new travel industry web start-up called Tnooz.
As well as May, who is based at his home in the UK, the other founders of Tnooz are US-based digital media entrepreneur Gene Quinn and Canada-based technology expert Fred Lalonde. The three operate a virtual office using internet telephony service Skype.
May said: “Tnooz was driven by the desire plus – we felt – a need to create a global brand for anyone working in the travel industry who has an interest or responsibility for travel technology and its related disciplines, from the execs making business-critical decisions to those building systems or developing software, hardware and websites.
“We secured funding and then built the editorial team, business processes, platform and website within four weeks, which is extraordinary given our locations.”
Revenue from the site will come from advertising, sponsorship and events.
May said: “Tnooz’s editorial philosophy is to provide news, analysis and commentary on the market. We are committed to avoiding the creeping levels of churnalism in the travel trade media and instead give a unique and edgy perspective on industry trends and news.”
