Former Now editor Jane Ennis has been appointed editor at Best, the National Magazine Company’s women’s weekly.
Ennis had been editor at IPC’s Now from 1996 to 2007, before editing First, and working as a magazine and newspaper consultant.
As a consultant, she relaunched the Daily Mail Weekend magazine, First, and Hair.
At Best, Ennis replaces Michelle Hather, who recently resigned after four years as editor to pursue other projects.
Ennis – a four-time winner of the British Society of Magazine editors award – was deputy editor and features editor of Best in 1994 / 1995. She will start as editor on Tuesday, 14 April.
NatMag’s managing director, Jessica Burley said: “I am delighted to welcome Jane back to Best magazine.
“Jane is an extremely successful editor with a great understanding of the brand and the market place. Her experience editing a mainstream celebrity weekly and her knowledge and sensitivity towards the real-life sector makes her a fantastic choice to take the helm of Best.
“We are of course very sad to lose Michelle who has been with Best for more than ten years. Michelle has done a fantastic job for NatMag and we wish her the very best for the future.””
Ennis said: “I am very excited at the prospect of taking charge of such an iconic weekly and continuing to steer it towards a successful future. I am looking forward to working with the talented staff on Best and to be joining NatMag.”
In the second half of 2008, according to ABC, Best’s circulation was 295,970, down 10.5 per cent year on year. Now’s was, 433,509, down 7.8 per cent year on year.
