Former Birmingham Mail editor Steve Dyson to edit business magazine in West Midlands

By Andrew Pugh

Former Birmingham Mail editor Steve Dyson has been named editor of a new business magazine in the West Midlands.

BQ West Midlands is the fourth regional edition of Business Quarter Magazine, which is looking to expand across the UK in print and online and already publishes in the North East, Yorkshire and Scotland.

The newest edition in the West Midlands, published by Room501 Publishing Ltd, comes out at the beginning of 2013.

Dyson is a former industrial correspondent at the Birmingham Mail, a title he later edited between 2005 and 2009.

He commented: “I’m delighted to be launching and editing BQ West Midlands which will aim to get to the heart and soul of our most successful business people, finding out what drives, inspires and motivates them.

“We will also report on recent developments that will have a significant impact on the West Midlands business landscape, providing in-depth analysis and debates from the experts on big issues.”

After leaving the Mail, Dyson opened his own company called Dyson Media Ltd, providing media training and strategic services including bespoke courses for the NCTJ and Press Association.

BQ West Midlands will be distributed directly to the top 7,500 business leaders in the region, with another 2,500 copies provided top hotels, business lounges, conference centres and similar venues.

Chris March, managing director of Room 501, said: “The BQ titles are no ordinary business publication. With unique content and a determined style, their aim is to inspire, enlighten and empower, embracing and reporting business success wherever it is found.

“In this way, BQ West Midlands will be a stimulating magazine that provides the inside track on what drives the region’s businesses, business leaders and entrepreneurs.”

Dyson, who was editor of the Middlesbrough Evening Gazette between 2002 and 2005, added: “It will be great to get back to editing, and the fact that BQ West Midlands is a quarterly title means it will complement my other work at Dyson Media, which will continue.”
