Emap merges news teams of Nursing Times and HSJ

By Conrad Quilty-Harper

Emap is merging the news teams of Health Service Journal and Nursing Times.

The new combined health news desk will consist of six reporters – whereas the old seperate teams comprised eight staff.

Press Gazette understands that the deputy news editor of Nursing Times has been redundant as a result of the merger, and that another journalist has moved to a different title.

The new combined team will produce content for both the magazines and their websites.

The combined news team will be led by Rebecca Evans who becomes new deputy editor of both titles.

Emap, which is jointly owned by Guardian Media Group and Apax, has been making cutbacks across a number of its titles in recent months.

In June Emap announced plans to cut 35 jobs across the group.

This moves comes after the company made 35 job cuts at Emap Inform, the group’s publishing division. In February it made all its magazines A4 in size to save on production costs.

According to GMG, Emap made an operating profit of £98.2m in the year to June on turnover of £284.9m.
