Emap looks to cut 35 jobs at publishing division

Business-to-business group Emap has announced it is looking to make about 35 jobs redundant in a company reorganisation.

Staff at Emap Inform, the group’s publishing division, were told today about the proposed changes. Emap said it was consulting with the effected employees and looking to offer redeployment opportunities within the group where possible.

The group has not publicly confirmed how the restructuring will take place, but Press Gazette understands that an art desk merger across the group’s trade magazines is one of the proposed changes.

Emap chief executive David Gilbertson said: “Emap continues to perform well and with its diverse set of revenue streams is proving very resilient to the downturn.

“However, areas of our business have come under pressure due to the impact of recession on print advertising, and we need to take action now to address this as part of a wider divisional reorganisation.

“Regrettably it is not possible to reduce costs sufficiently without making some roles redundant.

“We also need to make sure our publishing business is in the right shape for the future, which will see us delivering paid-for content across a range of different platforms.”

Emap Inform accounts for about a quarter of the company’s total revenues. The rest comes from data, exhibitions, conferences and the group’s operations in the Middle East.

Emap publishes titles including Retail Week, Broadcast and Nursing Times.
