Emap announces 40 job cuts at magazine division

By Paul McNally

Emap has announced it is looking to cut about 40 jobs at its B2B magazine division, Emap Inform – about 10 per cent of the total headcount.

The division, which publishes 21 magazines including Broadcast and Drapers, employs 400 staff in total – about half of whom are journalists.

In a staff memo today, Emap Inform chief executive Simon Middelboe said a period of consultation with affected staff would begin on Monday.

Emap chief executive David Gilbertson told Press Gazette: ‘It’s a response to what we expect to be pretty tough advertising conditions next year.

‘We hope we’ll be able to mitigate the impact. We do have vacancies within other parts of the business so I’m hoping we’ll be able to match some of the people affected to those vacancies.”

Gilbertson said Emap’s other operating divisions, which include conferences and data, were unaffected. The group employs a total of 1,600 staff.

Press Gazette understands that an emergency NUJ chapel meeting has been called this evening.

Emap was sold to the Guardian Media Group and private equity firm Apax for £1bn in December last year.
