Former news chief executive Keith McAllister has been appointed to the new job of Reuters global editor online, based in New York.
McAllister will oversee all online operations at Reuters News, working closely with its editorial, technology and media divisions to create multimedia products for its existing services. He will also serve as the main link between Reuters News newsgathering/production, and its online operations.
McAllister said: “Reuters has some really outstanding points. It has one of the best brands and it has some of the best journalists in the world. Reuters is working from a position of strength and I am really excited to take it to the next level.”
From September 2006 to November 2008, McAllister was chief executive of online business, Mochila, which – according to Reuters – is the largest electronic newsgathering organisation in the US. The business deals in rights-managed content and the provision of premium advertising for brand marketers.
Before Mochila, McAllister spent almost 18 years at CNN, where he eventually became executive vice-president and managing editor of national newsgathering for all news coverage in the US and Canada.
