The Daily Mail’s Pete Picton has been appointed editorial director of Mirror Online.
Picton was formerly deputy publisher of Mail Online and most recently was editor of the Mail newspapers’ tablet edition, Mail Plus.
Picton joins Trinity Mirror next week and has already left Northcliffe House.
At the Mirror he will be responsible for editorial output across all online platforms. He will report to editor-in-chief Lloyd Embley.
Embley said he was pleased to have “attracted somebody of Pete’s calibre to the senior team as he is one of the UK’s most experienced online tabloid journalists”.
He added: “Pete and Malcolm will make a powerful digital force and together they will accelerate our already impressive online growth.”
Simon Fox, Trinity Mirror’s chief executive, said: “Pete’s arrival here is a clear indication of how we are attracting the very best digital talent in the business as we relentlessly focus on our digital ambitions.”
Picton said: “The Mirror has a strong heritage and it is building on that with a fresh look at digital, as its recent initiatives have shown. I think that is an exciting process to be involved with and I am looking forward to being a part of the team they're creating."
