AOL UK has made three new editorial appointments as the company pushes ahead with plans to appoint “hundreds” of journalists in the coming year.
Earlier this week David Eun, president of AOL’s media and studios operations, said his company intended to become the largest hirer of journalists next year.
The majority of those appointments are likely to be in the United States.
AOL employs around 500 full time editorial employees globally with up to 40,000 freelance contributors.
In the UK, AOL has 30 editorial staff with around 100 freelance contributors.
The full-time staff has been swelled by the appointment last week of Tom Flack, who joined as AOL’s new managing editor of its UK finance channel.
Flack, who was previously UK editor of Yahoo! Finance, has been tasked with growing UK audiences across WalletPop and Daily Finance, boosting engagement and developing new revenue opportunities.
In addition, AOL also appointed Libby Banks last week as the lead writer to its StyleList fashion site.
Banks is also the European fashion and arts correspondent for The National newspaper, which is based in the United Arab Emirates.
Tamsin Kelly has also joined the AOL UK editorial team as editor of its ParentDish site having previously held senior editorial positions at Woman’s Own, The Sunday Mirror and The Sun.
The three appointments follow Marie Claire’s online editor, Carla Bevan, joining AOL at the start of the month as editor-in-chief of its UK sites.
